Chapter 106 Visiting the Young Lady's Home
Chapter 106 Visiting the Young Lady's Home
The group finished their dinner at the table, which was filled with a mystical aura. After eating, Mr. and Mrs. Chen went straight to their room to avoid making Chen Wanying and her friends feel uncomfortable. Chen Wanying then gave the three of them a tour of the house, explaining things as she went:
"This is the kitchen, there's a Chinese kitchen and a Western kitchen. Next to the kitchen is the woodshed, because my parents think food cooked with firewood tastes better. Opposite the kitchen is the aunties' dining room, and up the stairs is a teppanyaki grill, which my dad set up in the last few years, but we've hardly ever used it. Then there's the dining room where we just ate, the big dining room we only use when we have guests, the small dining room next door when our family eats."
Su Xia glanced at her aunt's dining room, which was almost as big as one of her own rooms, compared to the small dining room Chen Wanying had mentioned. This was hardly small! Did Chen Wanying have some kind of misunderstanding about what "small" meant?
The four of them walked through the courtyard to the other side, and Chen Wanying continued to introduce, "This is the restroom. My mom even separated the men's and women's areas. I'm speechless. It's just like a public restroom outside. Over there are the women's rooms."
"One, two, three, four, your aunt has four rooms?" Ye Zhenzhen asked, hardly believing it.
"Yes, yes, it's mostly two people per room. And Uncle Wen is an elder in our family, so he has his own room. Each room has its own bathroom, and the men's and women's bathrooms outside are mainly for visiting guests." Chen Wanying nodded. Her family never mistreats their nanny; this isn't the master-servant relationship of ancient times, so there's no need for that.
"Do you need a housekeeper? I can apply; I'm young and capable," Ye Zhenzhen asked Chen Wanying.
"How could you steal my job? Wanying, look at me," Su Xia said.
"Me too, I can too," Lu Lu said after a moment's hesitation.
Then she saw the three of them look at her at the same time, seemingly a little surprised that Lu Lu would say such a thing. Usually, it was Ye Zhenzhen and Su Xia who were more active and would say whatever came to mind.
"Why are you all staring at me like that?" Lu Lu touched her face, but it didn't seem like there was anything there.
"Just because of what you said, if my housekeeper quits, you'll be the first person she'll come to," Chen Wanying said.
"unfair!"
"Excessive!"
Su Xia and Ye Zhenzhen immediately spoke up.
After touring the first floor, the group found that Mr. and Mrs. Chen were on the second floor, so they took the elevator directly to the third floor. As Su Xia exited the elevator, she remarked, "There's even an elevator to go upstairs? Does your house have a basement?"
“Yes, the basement has a home theater and a gym. My dad also put a mahjong table there, as well as a pool table, making it kind of like a card room.” Chen Wanying nodded, then added, “The home theater is pretty good for watching movies, just like going to the cinema.”
"I'm tired of saying 'I envy'," Ye Zhenzhen waved her hand. This really is the life of the rich!
"This is my reception room. I usually have guests or friends come here to sit. There's an elevator over there, similar to a food delivery station. If you need tea or fruit, it's brought up from there, which is convenient and quick." Chen Wanying opened the door to show them the layout inside.
The three of them peeked inside. The interior was decorated in a modern, minimalist style, with soft, light-colored sofas and large floor-to-ceiling windows, providing ample natural light. The food serving area was almost the same color as the walls if you didn't look closely.
Lu Lu pointed to a door and asked, "Is that the bathroom?"
“No, the bathroom is across the street, that leads to my study. Then there’s a door from the study that leads to my walk-in closet and bedroom. My dad designed it so they’re interconnected, so I don’t have to go back to the hallway to go to each room. Let’s go in this way, there’s nothing much to see in the hallway.” Chen Wanying finished speaking and walked into the reception room, then opened the door leading to the study.
The first thing that caught Lu Lu's eye was three bookshelves filled with all sorts of books, and upon closer inspection, she noticed that there were many English versions. Ye Zhenzhen was drawn to a bright color and ran over to pull it out: "XX, can we not be sad? Oh my god, I've read that book too."
"I loved these romance novels when I was in junior high and high school. I went to the bookstore every day to buy physical copies. Later, my dad bought me a computer, so I read them online." Chen Wanying looked happily at the rows of bookshelves, which were full of the novels she had bought.
"XX website, right? I even spent quite a bit of money on it. I remember when I was in high school, the author of 'Dream Falls into Poetry' wrote a quick transmigration novel."
"Is it true that men are unreliable?"
"Yes, that's the one, the one I love so much."
Ye Zhenzhen and Chen Wanying seemed to have found kindred spirits, and stood hand in hand discussing the plot. Lu Lu, not understanding, walked over to Su Xia and asked, "Have you read that book too?"
How should Su Xia answer? She had indeed read it, since the novel was written by her! "Dream Falls into Poetry" was her pen name, but... it felt strange that someone other than Chen Yuan suddenly said they liked her novel. Su Xia shook her head and then said to Lu Lu, "I haven't read it."
Let's not reveal our identities; it's a bit awkward.
When Chen Wanying and Ye Zhenzhen heard that the two of them hadn't seen it, they immediately came over to recommend it. Ye Zhenzhen said, "I have an electronic version, I'll send it to you."
Chen Wanying took a book off the shelf and handed it to Lu Lu, saying, "I bought ten books, here's one for you to read."
"What? Why did you buy so many?" Ye Zhenzhen was also surprised and turned to ask Chen Wanying.
Chen Wanying pulled another book from the bookshelf, opened the first page, showed Ye Zhenzhen the signature on it, and then said with great pride, "I stayed up all night to snag this."
"My God, you actually have a signed copy!" Ye Zhenzhen rushed over, grabbed the book, and said in disbelief, "Teacher Da Meng is known for being very mysterious. She never shows her face, doesn't hold book signings, and rarely gives interviews. I heard that she owns the copyrights to all her books, and she refused to adapt Ru Meng Ling into a film."
“Yes, this is the 10th anniversary edition published by the publishing house. There are only 1,000 signed copies in total, hehe!” Chen Wanying looked at Ye Zhenzhen with a proud expression.
"That's great! I heard there's a new little story in this collector's edition." Ye Zhenzhen gently stroked the book with her hand; she was genuinely delighted to find the little story inside.
“Yes, I love it. It’s Da Meng’s unique style that no one else can imitate.” Chen Wanying nodded in agreement, then said to Lu Lu, “You absolutely have to read it. It’s not one of those romance novels.”
"Let me see." This was the first time Lu Lu had been so enthusiastically persuaded to buy something, and she felt a little uncomfortable, so she agreed.
Then the two turned to look at Su Xia, and said with suspicion, "I can believe that Lulu hasn't seen it, but I don't believe you haven't seen it."
Su Xia smiled awkwardly. She really didn't have the habit of reading her own novels, and even felt like giving up on the story when she was stuck. If it weren't for Chen Yuan, that diligent little bee, urging her on, she probably would have given up on writing long ago.
"You really haven't seen it?" Chen Wanying asked, her question piercing to the core.
“My sister has mentioned this author to me. I read part of it, but not the whole thing.” Su Xia pulled Chen Yuan aside, then thought for a moment and added, “My sister knows Teacher Da Meng, would you like her to sign something?”
"Yes, yes, I want it!" Ye Zhenzhen quickly raised her hand to indicate.
"I don't want it. I already have Teacher Da Meng's autograph." Chen Wanying shook her head. She was happy with what she had, so why take so much?
"What about TO signatures?" Su Xia dropped another bombshell, hoping to grab their attention.
"Yes!" Ye Zhenzhen and Chen Wanying looked at Su Xia with sparkling eyes.
"Then I'll talk to my sister and ask Teacher Da Meng to give each of you three a signed copy next time."
"yeah!"
The four then went to the walk-in closet, which was about the size of a single room. The closet was organized by style and color, and there was even an entire wall of bags and shoes. Some of the brands were recognizable, while others were not, but they all looked very expensive.
Su Xia couldn't help but exclaim, "This is even more luxurious than some other era!"
"It's said that most of the things in a certain era were contributed by the director himself, so the director must have a lot of money," Chen Wanying added. Then, seeing the three of them looking a little stunned, she quickly said, "My walk-in closet isn't even half the size of my mom's. If you went to visit my mom's walk-in closet, you wouldn't be able to stop laughing."
"Ahhh, can I marry you? Wanying, what's so great about Lin Zhe? I can be good to you too," Ye Zhenzhen said, holding Chen Wanying's hand.
"That's going too far, Zhenzhen. There's a proper order to things. I told Wanying I wanted to marry her back in my freshman year," Su Xia said from the side.
"What? Lin Zhe is still in high school, what chance do you have?" Ye Zhenzhen retorted, not to be outdone.
"Yes, we've missed our chance." Su Xia shrugged regretfully, expressing her helplessness.
Of the three, Su Xia and Chen Chunqi had spent a lot of time together and had seen some rare items, so they weren't too shocked. Ye Zhenzhen was initially surprised, but she was more interested in architectural engineering, so she quickly became immune to the walk-in closet. Finally, there was Lu Lu, whose mind wasn't on the walk-in closet at all, so the group quickly arrived at Chen Wanying's bedroom.
Contrary to the expected princess-like pink style, the room features simple white walls and sleek furniture, a stark contrast to the Chinese-style decor outside. It's clearly a young person's room. There's a large bed and an open balcony next to it, offering views of the outdoor swimming pool and the distant lawn.
"Your rooms are on the fourth floor. There are guest rooms upstairs for relatives and friends to stay in when they come to visit. Your luggage has been moved up as well. Each person has their own room. If you're afraid to be alone at night, you can share a room with someone else," Chen Wanying said, pointing to the ceiling.
"Wow, how many days are we going to stay?" Su Xia asked Ye Zhenzhen.
"I have to go to try on bridesmaid dresses in a week, help me choose a wedding dress, and ideally, we could also go to see the venue together. All my friends have gone abroad to get married, so I don't have any peers around me anymore." Chen Wanying wished the three of them could help her sort out a bunch of things. She was all alone without anyone to advise her, and it was really easy for her to get caught up in all the agonizing decisions.
You might ask, "She's clearly from a wealthy family, so why can't she make a decision?" It's like everyone handing you everything you like and forcing you to choose just one. Anyone would hesitate for a moment. Plus, Chen Wanying gets along well with her three roommates, and they're going to be her bridesmaids, so it's perfectly understandable for them to offer advice and help the bride.
"Then let's rest early and get busy starting tomorrow," Lu Lu nodded and said to Su Xia and Ye Zhenzhen.
Su Xia glanced at her watch. They finished dinner at 7:30, and after a stop-and-go tour, it was already 9:30. It was indeed getting late, so she nodded in agreement, "It is a bit late, we should rest."
"Then I'll take you up there."
The next day, around seven o'clock in the morning, the three of them woke up one after another and washed up. As soon as they stepped out of their room, they saw the person standing at the door. She said to them, "Breakfast is ready. Please come with me to the dining room to eat."
"Oh, okay, thank you!" Lu Lu was still a little unaccustomed to it, then asked, "Is Wanying up yet?"
"I was just about to come up to find you, but I didn't expect Mom and Dad to send the maid over." Chen Wanying nodded to the maid and then said, "You can go down now, I'll take them to the dining room."
"Yes, Miss." The maid finished speaking and walked away from the other side.
Ye Zhenzhen asked curiously, "Isn't she going downstairs?"
“Oh, there’s an elevator over there for the maids. My dad installed one there because they need to clean and do other things, it’s more convenient.” Chen Wanying said as she pressed the elevator button. She had just come up, so she went down without waiting.
The four of them went to the same small restaurant Chen Wanying had mentioned yesterday. A sumptuous breakfast was already laid out, including Western-style sandwiches and milk, as well as Chinese-style steamed buns, mantou, and soy milk. Each item was in roughly the same portion size, so there was no need to worry about not having enough to eat or wasting food.
"I guess they didn't know what you guys liked to eat, and since I usually just make sandwiches and steamed buns at home, the aunties made it all together." Chen Wanying pulled out a seat she usually sat in and then invited everyone to eat breakfast together.
Not long after the meal, the butler came over and said the car was ready and we could leave. Everyone walked out the gate and saw a seven-seater van parked there. Everyone got in and headed to their destination.
"The designer only arrived yesterday. Because I said I wanted to see the actual product today, he specially drove over in a campervan, saying he would bring the wedding dress and the formal wear together. Hahahaha."
"Shall we go to his RV now?"
"No, he rented a venue for us to use."
