Chapter 211 Family Matters
Chapter 211 Family Matters
After savoring the taste of barbecue, the taro was cooked. Li Xiaonuan pulled out the taro and shared it with the others at the table.
Apart from Li Xiaonuan, Qi Ji, Sang Moyun, and Qing Ning were all unwilling to pick up the taro covered in hot ash.
Li Xiaonuan didn't care whether they wanted to eat it or not. Anyway, she had already shared it with them, and whether they ate it or not was their own business.
The autumn days are getting shorter; I had only roasted a few taro when it was already completely dark.
After quickly finishing off a few small taro, Li Xiaonuan dusted off her hands and looked around for Zhou Liufeng. She hadn't seen him for a while and was worried about him. After all, Zhou Liufeng had come for her, and she couldn't let something happen to him under her nose.
Sang Moyun stared at the taro for a long time, but finally gave up the idea of peeling and eating them herself. She turned to look at Li Xiaonuan, wanting to ask her how to make candied taro, but saw that Li Xiaonuan was looking around.
"What are you looking for? Are you looking for Brother Yu? He disappeared a long time ago. He took two people with him and went into the mountains. When we stopped." Sang Moyun mistakenly thought that Li Xiaonuan was looking for Wei Yu, so he chuckled and explained to her.
“No.” Li Xiaonuan shook her head, still searching for Zhou Liufeng. “Miss Sang, have you seen Brother Liufeng? I’ve been looking for him all afternoon.”
Upon hearing this, Sang Moyun looked slightly disappointed. She replied somewhat perfunctorily, "I don't know. I think I saw him when we were setting up camp earlier."
"You guys keep eating, I'll go look for him." With that, Li Xiaonuan stood up and headed towards the lake.
Wei Yu wrapped the taro in front of him with a handkerchief and followed. Sang Moyun watched the figures leave one after the other, then reached out with a bitter face and picked up a taro to peel.
Qingning watched the two walk away hand in hand, then gave Sang Moyun a strange look. In her mind, Sang Moyun only ever shamelessly clung to Qi Ji, and she felt that Sang Moyun was the kind of person who was extremely frivolous.
But why didn't Sang Moyun react when Qi Ji went to chase after Li Xiaonuan this time?
Qingning shook her head, indicating that she did not understand at all.
Beside the campfire, Sang Moyun struggled with Little Taro with a pained expression, while Qingning tried to decipher Sang Moyun's thoughts. Neither of them paid any attention to the other, creating an eerily quiet atmosphere.
Before long, Qingning's maidservant arrived with several people, carrying a pile of things. They arranged the things according to Qingning's instructions, and then left.
In just a short while, Sang Moyun had devoured the small taro in front of her. The taste was surprisingly good. She smacked her lips, feeling she wanted more.
Looking at the small pile of taro that Li Xiaonuan had left by the fire, Sang Moyun couldn't help but reach out. She imitated what Li Xiaonuan had done before, throwing the small taro into the hot ashes to bury it.
"Aren't you going to chase after Qi Ji? He ran off with Miss Li." Finally, Qingning asked out of curiosity.
"Don't worry, Miss Li isn't interested in Qi Ji. Besides, Qi Ji is a coward; he wouldn't dare get close to Miss Li. Miss Li is the one Brother Yu has his eye on," Sang Moyun said nonchalantly.
Upon hearing this, Qingning's eyes flashed with surprise, and she asked gossipily, "Has Wei Yu really taken a liking to Miss Li? I feel like the two of them are completely mismatched. Could it be that Miss Li likes that guy surnamed Zhou?"
Sang Moyun shook her head and gave a very professional analysis: "Brother Yu does like Miss Li, and has liked her for quite some time. It's just that Miss Li seems to be very oblivious and is quite distant from Brother Yu. That young master surnamed Zhou is favored by the elders of the Li family, and Miss Li doesn't reject him. But I think Miss Li doesn't seem to have any feelings for anyone."
"And what about you?" Qingning suddenly asked, curious about Sang Moyun's opinion of Qi Ji. "You're always pestering Qi Ji, do you really like him?"
"That's not true at all." Sang Moyun waved her hands vigorously in front of her and continued, "I pestered him because I wanted him to treat my mother. My mother doesn't trust outsiders and always listens to the doctor that woman arranged for her. That's why she's so sick she's almost dying. So I wanted Qi Ji, as her future husband, to take my mother's pulse."
"Why my future husband?" Qingning asked, puzzled.
Sang Moyun sighed, somewhat sadly, and said, "My mother is always too soft-hearted and kind-hearted. She doesn't believe what I say, nor does she believe what the doctors I found outside say. She doesn't believe that anyone in the manor is trying to harm her. But I think she will listen to my future husband. So, I asked Qi Ji to help me with this."
"Why do I feel like all your families are so complicated? Unlike my family, it's quiet and peaceful all day long, I'm so bored," Qingning said, resting her chin on her hands, somewhat helplessly.
Sang Moyun replied enviously, "Princess, you should be glad that your household doesn't have so many troubles. Prince Jing is a thoughtful man; he didn't send too many women back to bother your mother. You know, your mother only has you as her daughter, and Prince Jing's household doesn't have a heir yet."
Upon hearing this, Qingning felt her spirits plummet. She knew she couldn't live without brothers. Their Prince Jing's mansion was still lacking a heir.
But her mother couldn't conceive, and her father rarely visited her quarters. She was very worried, but there was nothing she could do. Her father refused all of her mother's requests to take a concubine, and even sent away all the aunts who had been sent by her to serve him.
It is clear that the father would not have children with any woman other than the mother.
"I do hope that Father can have one or two concubines. That way, our household will at least have an heir," Qingning said softly, taking a sip of fruit wine.
Over here, Sang Moyun and Qing Ning were worrying about their family's affairs. Over there, after washing her hands by the lake, Li Xiaonuan began searching for Zhou Liufeng. Qi Ji followed closely beside her, seemingly wanting to say something.
"Dr. Qi, please speak freely, I'm listening." In the end, Li Xiaonuan stopped and said to Qi Ji.
Qi Ji smiled upon hearing this. He cleared his throat and said loudly, "Miss Li, you should accept Wei Yu. Although that boy is a bit domineering and tyrannical, he is still a good candidate for a son-in-law. Although their family's troubles are complicated, they won't affect him. Just trust him and follow his arrangements."
Li Xiaonuan was a little puzzled: "Dr. Qi, when did you start thinking about Wei Yu so much? This is not like you."
Qi Ji put his hands behind his back, looked up at the sky and said, "He and I have always been best friends. We were young and naive back then, and we did do some silly things. Now that I think about it, our behavior was really childish and ridiculous."
“The one who’s childish and ridiculous is you, not me. I’ve always been a carefree and easygoing person.” Wei Yu’s voice suddenly rang out.
