Chapter 198 Indescribable Emotions
Chapter 198 Indescribable Emotions
Su Ming clenched his fists, his knuckles turning white from the excessive force. Finally, he took a deep breath and replied calmly, "Understood."
As he prepared for the mission, Su Ming recalled every moment he had with Lin Hai. The memories of fighting side by side, Lin Hai's smile and resolute gaze, all surged through his mind. However, reason told him that all this was in the past, and Lin Hai was no longer the same Lin Hai. He had to let go of these feelings, or else not only himself but also many of his comrades would be sacrificed.
On the night of the mission, the weather was gloomy, with dark clouds covering the sky, seeming to foreshadow an impending storm. Su Ming and his team, fully armed, quietly infiltrated the enemy's stronghold. They moved swiftly and silently, approaching their target location.
According to intelligence, Lin Hai was currently inside this hidden headquarters. Standing outside the stronghold, Su Ming's inner struggle intensified. He knew that upon entering, he would have to face Lin Hai, the comrade who had once fought alongside him through bloody battles. He had long anticipated this moment of separation, but even when it finally arrived, his heart was still filled with conflict and pain.
"Su Ming, get ready to enter." The team member reminded in a low voice.
Su Ming nodded, raised his head and glanced at the gloomy sky as if looking for something, then led the team members into the stronghold.
The headquarters was heavily guarded, but Su Ming and his team, relying on their superb skills, quickly broke through the layers of defense and advanced directly to the core area. Along the way, Su Ming's mood grew increasingly heavy; he could almost feel the pressure of the impending confrontation.
They finally reached the core area of the headquarters. Su Ming stood at the door, his fingers clenched around his weapon, his heartbeat rapidly accelerating. He knew that on the other side of the door, Lin Hai was waiting for him. This would be their last conversation, and the final break in their relationship.
"Let me do it." Su Ming said in a low voice.
The team members nodded, handed him the subsequent tasks, and stepped aside to wait. Su Ming took a deep breath and raised his hand to push open the door.
The door slowly opened, and Lin Hai's figure appeared in his sight. He stood in the center of the room, his expression stern, his eyes revealing a complex mix of emotions. The two of them sat in silence, a tense atmosphere thick in the air.
"You're here." Lin Hai spoke first, his voice low and calm, as if they were just old friends who met again after a long separation.
Su Ming stared at Lin Hai, his heart filled with mixed emotions. He had imagined meeting Lin Hai again countless times, but he had never imagined that this meeting would be under such circumstances.
"Lin Hai, why did you betray us?" Su Ming finally spoke, his voice filled with pain and questioning.
Lin Hai smiled, but there was a hint of bitterness in that smile. "Su Ming, you don't understand. We're pursuing different things. You and I are destined to take different paths."
Su Ming's hands trembled slightly as he tried to control his emotions. "Even so, you shouldn't betray us, betray those comrades who shed blood and sacrificed for you."
Lin Hai sighed, a trace of sadness flashing in his eyes. "Do you think I want to betray you? In this world, some things are beyond our control. Do you think everything is black and white? You are so naive."
Su Ming remained silent. He knew that there was undeniable truth in Lin Hai's words. The world was never that simple, but even so, he could not accept Lin Hai's betrayal.
"Is this the reason why you chose to betray?" Su Ming asked coldly.
Lin Hai didn't answer, but slowly turned around, his back to Su Ming. His voice was low and distant, as if he was talking to himself: "Su Ming, sometimes, choosing to betray isn't just for yourself, but for the greater good."
Su Ming's emotions grew more complex. He knew that no amount of questioning could change reality. Regardless, Lin Hai had made his choice, and he must fulfill his mission.
"Lin Hai, since you have made your choice, we have no choice." Su Ming slowly raised his weapon, his finger on the trigger, his fingertips trembling slightly.
Lin Hai still had his back to him, standing there quietly, as if waiting for fate to come.
Just as Su Ming was about to pull the trigger, Lin Hai suddenly spoke: "Su Ming, perhaps one day you will understand my choice. I have not betrayed our former beliefs, I have simply embarked on a different path."
Su Ming's hand faltered, and a complex mix of emotions welled up in his heart once again. He knew that Lin Hai's words were not entirely unreasonable, but right now, he didn't have time to dwell on them. He had to complete the mission and not let any emotions control him.
At this moment, the sound of hurried footsteps broke the silence in the room. Su Ming turned around and found another group of enemies rushing towards him, obviously coming to reinforce.
"Hurry up!" Lin Hai suddenly shouted, with a hint of anxiety in his tone.
Su Ming was stunned, but he knew now was not the time to hesitate. He quickly turned around and saw Lin Hai working swiftly on the control console. Soon, the lights in the room flickered, as if some alarm system had been triggered.
"What are you doing?" Su Ming asked with a frown.
Lin Hai turned his head and glanced at Su Ming with a complicated expression. Then he said calmly, "I'm buying time for you. Hurry up, or you won't be able to get out."
The day Su Ming returned to the organization, the sky was so gloomy it looked as if ink was dripping, and the air was filled with a damp, musty smell. The atmosphere at headquarters seemed even more depressing than the weather outside. Everyone wore a vague mask, concealing their true feelings.
His footsteps echoed through the corridor, and with each step, Su Ming's heart grew heavier. Returning here should have brought a sense of familiarity and comfort, but everything before him felt strangely unfamiliar. Along the way, everyone he met simply nodded in greeting, without any unnecessary greetings. The faces of those who had once fought alongside him now seemed veiled behind layers of disguise, distant and cold.
"Su Ming, the mission was completed very well." The commander sat coldly in the office, staring at Su Ming as if he was examining an uninvited guest.
Su Ming stood at the table, his eyes slightly lowered, his heart churning with indescribable emotions. He had thought that after completing his mission, he would be able to return to the organization and reintegrate into this big family, but now it seemed that things were far from that simple.
"Thank you." Su Ming responded simply, without saying anything more. He knew that when facing someone like the commander, too much talk would lead to mistakes.
The commander stared at him for a long moment, as if trying to assess the meaning behind his words. Finally, he nodded, his tone still cold: "You can go and rest. We have other missions that will require you later."
