Chapter 2578: The Crooked Shop
Chapter 2578: The Crooked Shop
In the spacious mansion, the lights were brilliantly lit.
In the wide courtyard, more than ten young beauties were dancing, draped in red gauze clothes, their dance enchanting. On one side of the courtyard, several other beauties were playing various musical instruments, providing accompaniment for the dancers in the center.
On the corridor of the courtyard, there was a broad wine table set up, adorned with various fruits, exquisite wines, and delicacies. Two beautiful women attended on either side, but the seats in front of the table were unoccupied.
The middle-aged man clapped his hands and said with a smile, "When distinguished guests arrive, we host a feast!"
"Yes!"
The two beauties attending by the wine table stood up, and swiftly took out two wine tables from their Space Rings, placing them beside the main table. They then served up delicacies and wine with great dexterity.
The middle-aged man gestured with his hand and said, "Please, Fellow Daoists, have a drink of this light wine as we watch and chat."
Carson Flores and Cassiane Sinclair sat down, and Carson smiled, "Fellow, you’re truly living the good life."
The middle-aged man laughed, "Ashamed as I am, my aptitude is limited. Without much progress in my cultivation, I decided to indulge myself in worldly pleasures, seeing out the rest of my days as an idle man. Come, both of you, welcome, please!"
The middle-aged man raised his glass enthusiastically, inviting them to drink.
Carson raised his glass and took a sip, but his expression subtly changed.
There was something in the wine.
Soul Dispersion Pill!
Not only was Carson a High-Order Pill Master, but he also had a fair understanding of medical practice. Even though the taste of the Soul Dispersion Pill was very faint and mixed with the fragrance of the wine, Carson could still clearly discern it.
Carson smacked his lips and tilted his head back, swallowing all of the wine, but a surge of Spiritual Power quietly enveloped the contents of the drink.
Seizing the moment, he secretly transmitted a message to Cassiane Sinclair: "There’s Soul Dispersion Pill in the wine."
Cassiane raised her brow slightly but maintained her calm demeanor as she drank the wine.
She saw that Carson, despite knowing about the Soul Dispersion Pill, drank it without flipping the table, and thus understood Carson’s intentions, deciding to remain composed as well.
They drank the wine, but clearly, it would have no effect.
The middle-aged man’s eyes lit up immediately when he saw them drink, and he laughed heartily: "It’s been too long since any guests came to this dingy place. Come, have another cup!"
Carson did not refuse and drank the second cup casually.
The middle-aged man, worried that the dosage in one cup might not suffice, was now completely at ease seeing them both drink two cups.
All that was needed was to stall for a few minutes until the Soul Dispersion Pill’s effects manifested, after which Carson and Cassiane would be at his mercy.
A beautiful couple with seemingly strong abilities should fetch a good price!
He wondered how much good stuff they carried and whether it could make him a fortune.
"I am Heartbewildering Pathist, what do you two Fellow Daoists call yourselves?"
After introducing himself, Carson asked, "Friend, do you know of the City of Netherfire?"
The Pathist was slightly taken aback: "The City of Netherfire of City Lord Elthar Garber?"
Carson looked at the Pathist with delight: "Yes, do you know it?"
The Pathist shook his head, "I’ve heard of it, but don’t know its location. Those looking for Elthar Garber are usually after his Fenshen Sword. Perhaps you are too?"
Carson was slightly disappointed and nodded: "Yes, are many people after the Fenshen Sword?"
The Pathist replied, "The Fenshen Sword can sever the Life Imprint and allow one to escape the Heavenly Dao. Although ordinary Cultivators do not need this ability, many in special circumstances highly covet it. Therefore, those seeking to borrow the Fenshen Sword are endless."
Carson pressed further, "Did any of these people succeed?"
The Pathist chuckled, "Of course not. Controlling the Fenshen Sword requires a special mental method, which only Elthar Garber possesses. Using the Fenshen Sword demands a price, and how could Elthar Garber harm himself to help others?"
Carson’s heart sank: "No exceptions at all?"
The Pathist thought for a moment, "It’s rumored someone succeeded, but I’m not sure. Generally, it’s nearly impossible."
Carson pondered and switched his question: "Where is the nearest city from here?"
In West Prison, the city is equivalent to a Sect, with a vast sphere of influence, including forts, hamlets, and other towns under it.
One just needs to find a city to slowly gather information.
The Pathist answered, "If you head northwest from here and fly swiftly for about a day, you will find a city called Black Tower City, the nearest settlement."
The Pathist’s gaze fell on Carson, and he frowned.
Why hadn’t the potion taken effect yet?
"Fellow Flores, you seem uncomfortable, is something wrong?"
The effects should have kicked in?
Carson’s face changed suddenly, and he pressed a hand on the table, knocking over the wine cup: "You... you poisoned me?"
The Pathist smiled slightly, "Not poison, just some specially mixed Soul Dispersion Pills in the wine, rest assured, losing control over Spiritual Power is normal."
Carson pointed angrily at the Pathist: "We have no grievances, we were just asking for directions, why harm us?"
The Pathist laughed heartily, "Why do you think I’m in this desolate place, if not to await outlanders like you?"
