Chapter 475 - 475: DSMW [475]
Chapter 475 - 475: DSMW [475]
Eighty for the big hammer, forty for the small hammer! The secret synthesis operation began, and everyone was kicked out of the warehouse.
Viel justified it by saying that anything involving the taboo of human transmutation was safer the fewer people who knew about it.
As a result, Miles, Ren, and Krista could only wait anxiously outside the workshop warehouse, listening to the nonstop pounding of a heavy hammer from inside the building, along with the shouts of Witchcrafter Schmietta.
"Eighty! Eighty! Eighty!"
It was always the big hammer swinging.
"It's such a strange feeling," Miles couldn't help but remark.
It felt much like waiting outside an operating room. What made it even stranger was that the one undergoing the operation inside was Miles himself.
It made the separation between body and soul feel vividly real.
Aisha: "We've finally reached this day, Mr. Miles. It's really short… well, it feels short to me, but for you, Mr. Miles, it must have been a very long wait."
Ever since Miles crossed into the Millennium Puzzle and became bound to Aisha Carlos, less than a full year had passed.
Yet within that single year, far too many things had happened that Miles could never have imagined in his entire life before crossing over.
"(*ノ▽ノ) It feels short because being with you makes me really happy, Mr. Miles! Time just whooshes by in an instant."
"I see. Honestly, it didn't feel that long to me either."
If you asked whether Miles was happy or not, as a seasoned card gamer, being able to cross into another world and duel was about as satisfying as it got.
If dueling couldn't make you smile, then you simply weren't winning enough.
"I'm really happy being with you too, Aisha."
"Uwah, Mr. Miles!"
"It's finished!"
At long last, the excited shout of completion from Witchcrafter Schmietta rang out from within the workshop warehouse.
"A masterpiece, this is my true masterpiece, Miles! Come in quickly!"
Even without Schmietta's urging, Miles didn't waste a single second and rushed straight into the Magic Workshop.
Cluttered equipment filled the area around the workbench. It wasn't just hammers.
Albeit none of that could draw Miles' attention.
What lay on the workbench was unquestionably his fully restored body, or rather, a brand-new body refined after Viel used every last remaining material in one go.
At Miles' request, the hair color had been changed back to blue. With the addition of the remaining materials, the overall completion level of the body had increased, and its physical age had grown a bit as well.
If the previous experimental Miles had been a white-haired shota with a physical age of around ten, then now the physical age was roughly fourteen, a blue-haired youth.
That put him only a little younger than Aisha and Ren, who had enrolled at Fusion Academy at sixteen.
Of course, to ensure basic privacy and avoid unnecessary trouble, Viel had properly dressed Miles after the work was complete.
Ren & Krista: "Damn it, it really feels like we were being guarded against."
"Now there's only one last step left. Soul transfer."
"What kind of transfer method will you use?"
"That much shouldn't need me to teach you. You should have already mastered it a few days ago."
Viel glanced meaningfully at the Pyramid of Light hanging at Aisha's waist.
"Soul materialization. Compared to relying on external force to move your soul into a new body, actively materializing your own soul to connect with the body will result in much higher compatibility."
"Got it!"
Soul reconstruction and materialization, projected through the Pyramid of Light as the medium.
"Do your best, Mr. Miles!"
After Miles left, Aisha, who had regained control of her body, called out in encouragement.
Aisha understood clearly that after this departure, Miles' soul might never return to her body again.
Even so, she had to accept it with strength and, from the bottom of her heart, offer Miles her blessing for rebirth.
"Thank you, Aisha."
After materializing into physical form, Miles felt as if he were drawn to the other version of himself standing before him, instinctively placing his hand on his body's shoulder.
Then, his soul state, like a liquid finding an empty vessel, surged forward uncontrollably and flowed inside.
When Miles opened his eyes again, he was already lying on the experiment table.
Rebirth.
The long-awaited word crashed violently into Miles' mind.
He had truly been reborn.
A brand-new body, reborn in another world.
Joy mixed with indescribable excitement, so intense that for a moment Miles felt dizzy and didn't dare believe this was real.
Slowly sitting up, he clenched his fist. Compared to the state of being a lingering spirit, this felt far closer to the tangible reality of inhabiting a physical body.
This wasn't a dream. This was the real thing, a body that truly belonged to him.
"YAY☆DID☆IT!"
Ignoring the fact that everyone around him was still watching, Miles shouted in excitement. This was the only way he could vent the emotions surging uncontrollably within him.
Watching Miles in such a state, everyone present could feel that joy all the more clearly.
"Mr. Miles! That's wonderful, really wonderful!" Aisha said, wiping tears from the corner of her eyes.
"Congratulations, Miles!" Ren laughed and patted Miles' thigh. "Welcome, in person, to the Spirit Continent!"
"Can your body fully adapt, Miles?" Krista asked with concern. "If movement is difficult for now, I can help you. You can stay in Axet to recuperate for a while. Of course, staying here permanently is fine too!"
That last line wasn't a concern anymore. It was just a desire.
As for whether his body could fully adapt, Miles' answer was that there was no problem at all.
Who was Miles?
Since crossing over, Miles had already switched bodies countless times, and never once had he experienced any discomfort.
You could say he was a master of body compatibility.
With that level of familiarity, entering a body custom-made just for him felt even more natural.
Even though he was still sitting on the experiment table, Miles felt that if he wanted to, he could easily leap two meters into the air.
"By the way, what is this?"
The reason Miles hadn't stood up yet was, of course, to inspect the goods.
He carefully examined his body, checking whether Viel had installed anything strange.
After all, secretly installing communicators or tracking devices was not the first time that bratty loli Viel had done something like that.
That was when Miles discovered a special mark on the back of his hand, engraved with a design resembling the eye of a Millennium Item.
"This is my masterpiece!" Schmietta introduced excitedly. "Miles, try focusing your consciousness on that mark."
"Focus my consciousness? All right."
Miles narrowed his eyes and tried. Focusing his consciousness probably meant concentrating on nothing but the mark on his arm.
The next second, that familiar sensation of soul exchange returned.
Miles' body lost consciousness once more and collapsed onto the experiment table.
Instead, when he opened his eyes again, Miles found himself watching his own body fall.
"┌(.Д.)┐ Wh-What is going on here, Mr. Miles?!" Aisha stammered, suddenly kicked back into the Millennium Puzzle's soul room.
"If you ask me, I don't know either."
He had only had his new body back for a few short minutes, yet Miles was already back inside Aisha's body.
Schmietta grinned. "So, what do you think? The special function I made just for you, Miles!"
"What exactly is this function?"
"Of course, it's the Millennium Puzzle's soul exchange function. Oh, after being enhanced, it's probably more appropriate to call it 'Soul Traversal' now."
"Soul Traversal?"
Viel explained in her place. "It's a Soul Traversal mark created based on the Millennium Puzzle's original functions. Even after you've obtained a body, Miles, you can still use the Millennium Puzzle's power to traverse into the body of anyone wearing a Millennium Item."
"You can actually do something like that?"
This was already at the level of remotely swapping souls. Even without understanding the mechanics, Miles could tell how complex this technology was.
"It was a huge pain!" Viel sighed heavily. "If Schmietta hadn't insisted and begged me, I wouldn't have set up a spell array to enhance Millennium Item functions. It's way too much work for the brain!"
The red-haired Schmietta put one hand on her hip and flashed a V-sign at Miles with the other.
"Hehe, I told you. To repay you for picking me up, this time I'd make it a true masterpiece! Well, what do you think? Pretty amazing, right!"
Without question, it was a masterpiece.
And judging from what just happened, this enhanced Soul Traversal function could even seize control of a body without the original soul noticing.
It was absurdly overpowered.
