Chapter 704 Odysseus
Chapter 704 Odysseus
"Damn it! The information doesn't even mention such crucial security equipment. How on earth do these people do their intelligence work?!"
Odysseus cursed.
The system is more advanced than intelligence suggests, with additional security measures.
He rapidly tapped away at his keyboard, trying to bypass security protocols, but time was running out.
“20 seconds…”
He had to change his strategy, abandoning complete data collection and focusing on the main goal - implanting the control program.
Odysseus entered a complex series of commands, forcibly terminating data collection and initiating the implantation program.
“10 seconds…”
The implant uploads quickly, and the progress bar moves forward slowly.
“5…4…3…”
The progress bar finally finished and a message flashed across the screen.
“INTEGRATION COMPLETE.”
At the last second before the system locked up, Odysseus pulled out the data drive, all warnings disappeared, and the system returned to normal.
He breathed a sigh of relief, but knew the alarm might have been triggered silently. He had to evacuate quickly.
Just as he was about to leave, the door of the control room suddenly opened and a senior officer walked in with two guards.
“Who are you? What are you doing here?”
The officer questioned warily, his hand already on his holster.
Odysseus quickly adjusted his posture and pretended to be checking the systems.
"Technical maintenance, sir. Reports of fluctuations in the Artemis system, possibly related to the storm."
The officer narrowed his eyes. “I have not authorized any technical personnel to enter this area.”
The situation is not good.
Odysseus realizes that there is no possibility of a peaceful solution.
He pretended to be panicked and searched his pockets: "I... I have a work order, it's right here..."
As the officers and guards' attention was focused on his movements, Odysseus suddenly struck, quickly pulling a silenced pistol from its hidden holster.
Three accurate bullets hit the three men's heads respectively, and they fell to the ground before they even had time to react.
Odysseus quickly checked the corridor to make sure there was no one else there, then closed the door and dragged the three bodies to a corner where they would not be easily seen.
He knew that these people would be discovered soon and had to leave as soon as possible.
But before that, he had one more thing to do.
He returned to the console, connected the communication device, and the encrypted channel was quickly connected.
"Owl calling Athena, Phase One complete, program implanted."
“But there were complications and we had to deal with three variables.”
After a brief pause, Perseus' voice came: "Roger, Owl. Is the variable clean?"
“For now, yes, but not for long.”
"Understood. Accelerate the evacuation plan. Remember, the system must be activated at 06:00, no matter what. This is absolute priority."
Odysseus checked his watch: 4:17 AM.
Less than two hours to leave and ensure remote activation.
"Roger that, Athena. Owl ends communication."
Odysseus quickly cleaned up the scene, making sure to leave no traces.
He pulled a different uniform from his toolbox—this time, that of a base security officer.
After the disguise was changed, he carefully left the control room.
His new identity provided him with greater mobility. Odysseus straightened his back and, mimicking a soldier's gait, walked down the corridor toward the exit.
Several technicians passed by him, but no one cast a suspicious look at him.
However, just as the elevator was about to reach the ground floor, a shrill alarm suddenly sounded and the red warning light began flashing.
"Security alert! Attention all personnel!"
"Unauthorized access to the Artemis system detected. All exits closed. Immediately initiate a full search."
"Repeat, begin a full search immediately!"
Things took a turn for the worse.
Odysseus knew he was running out of time, especially since the entire base would be completely shut down if the three bodies were discovered. He had to adjust his plans immediately.
Just as he was thinking about countermeasures, an urgent call came from the radio.
"Three people were found dead in the control room! I repeat, three people were dead!"
"Possible intruder! All guards, full lockdown and search the facility!"
The situation is critical.
Odysseus quickly analyzed the situation and realized that the standard evacuation route was no longer feasible.
He needed an alternative.
Suddenly, an idea flashed through his mind. He took out his radio and imitated the accent of the American officer.
"Security Team A, reporting in. A suspicious individual has been sighted in the northeast area."
The response came over the radio: "This is Security Team A, we don't have..."
Odysseus interrupted, "Damn it, I forgot, I contacted the wrong channel. You continue to search the southern area."
This little trick worked.
Odysseus heard on the radio that the commander had dispatched some forces to the northeast area, reducing the search pressure in other areas.
He quickly moved in the opposite direction, looking for an alternative exit.
According to my memory of the base layout, there is an emergency escape passage leading to the outside, which is mainly used for fire evacuation.
Odysseus avoided the main corridors and headed down the service passages.
He nearly collided with the searching guards several times, but he avoided danger with his rich experience and on-the-spot reaction.
Finally, he found the door marked "EMERGENCY EXIT".
However, frustratingly, the electronic lock on the door displayed a red light - all emergency exits were locked during the security alert.
Odysseus didn't have time to find another way out. He took a small bag of plastic explosives from his equipment and carefully placed it near the door lock, setting the minimum yield to reduce noise.
“Three, two, one…”
"boom!"
With a muffled sound, the door lock was blown open.
The sirens grew more shrill, but Odysseus no longer cared.
He pushed open the door and rushed into the dark emergency escape.
The escape route is a narrow concrete tunnel that extends all the way up to the surface.
Odysseus advanced quickly, and behind him came the noisy sound of footsteps and shouts.
"He's in the emergency exit! Everyone, block the exit!"
Odysseus quickened his pace, taking out his last two smoke bombs and throwing them backwards.
Thick smoke quickly filled the narrow passage, buying him precious time.
At the end of the passage was a steel door that led to the outside world. The door should have been locked, but the explosion seemed to have affected the entire locking system. Odysseus pushed hard and the door opened.
Outside it was pouring rain and howling wind.
He found himself in a small parking lot behind the base where several military jeeps were parked.
Without time to think, Odysseus quickly pried open the nearest jeep and expertly shorted out the ignition system.
The engine roared and the vehicle started.
Just as he was about to drive away, a dazzling searchlight shone over and three armored vehicles came speeding from the main gate of the base, blocking his way.
A stern command came from the loudspeaker.
"Get out of the car! Put your hands up!"
“This is the final warning…”
