Chapter 1047 - 1046: Peril on the Mountain Road (Part 1)

Chapter 1047 - 1046: Peril on the Mountain Road (Part 1)

"Beat me up?" Su Yuanke snorted coldly, "Whether it's my grandfather or my brother, in any case, how the Su Family treats you, you should be well aware, right? If you don't think doing this is repaying good with evil, then I have nothing to say."Chu Ge was already feeling quite helpless, and after hearing what Su Yuanke said, he felt even more helpless. This guy is not only impervious to oil and salt, neither soft nor hard approaches work, but he's also grabbed onto Chu Ge's Achilles' heel. Although he now really itches to retaliate, he truly cannot just easily do so.

"Su Yuanke, you yourself said it's your brother and grandfather who have been nice to me, so what the hell does it have to do with you?" Chu Ge pointed at Su Yuanke from the back seat, "From the first time you saw me until now, you seem to have never given me a friendly face, have you?"

Questioned by Chu Ge, Su Yuanke fell silent. It wasn't that he had nothing to say, it's just that rather than arguing, he preferred to find a way to probe what Chu Ge's real intentions might be; everything else seemed pointless.

Su Yuanke didn't speak, making Chu Ge even more irritable inside.

Damn it, fighting isn't an option, scolding is pointless, hypnosis doesn't work, saying something to prove he has no ill intent, trying to reason with him... it all seems ineffective.

From the first moment they laid eyes on each other, it was clear they began to guess and suspect one another. Though Chu Ge always considered himself skilled at getting people to talk, facing this special situation now, he truly felt at a loss, torn to the point of exasperation.

Moreover, Chu Ge understood the principle that saying too much could lead to mistakes. If this guy was okay then fine, but if he turned out to be bad news and learned something he shouldn't know, it would mean trouble, which Chu Ge despised the most.

The hypnotized taxi driver continued driving forward, while Chu Ge and Su Yuanke were locked in a stalemate with their own thoughts, enveloping the small car in a deathly silence.

Sighing quietly, Chu Ge looked out the window. It was a very remote section of road, with a barren, solitary mountain on one side and the highway's guardrail on the other, beyond which lay a vast red land.

The mountain rocks in the night rapidly retreated from Chu Ge's view, while the red land beyond the railing seemed to move back at a snail's pace. But whether it was the barren rocks, the highway guardrail, or the distant land, they all looked the same, making one's mood inevitably more irritable.

This irritation belonged not only to Chu Ge but also to Su Yuanke. He even suddenly envied the taxi driver beside him, as the guy was hypnotized and knew nothing except focusing on driving towards Gui City Cemetery.

This sudden silence made Su Yuanke feel somewhat uncomfortable. Compared to such eerie silence, he felt if he and Chu Ge were just to randomly chat about anything, it might make him feel more at ease.

"Hey Chu Ge, could you tell me the truth, why exactly did you come looking for me today?"

Although Su Yuanke didn't really expect Chu Ge to tell the truth, he almost pointlessly asked the question.

"Why? Haha..." Chu Ge rubbed his forehead, somewhat helplessly shifting his gaze to the back of Su Yuanke in the front seat, "I already said from the start, first I want to know if you know Chu Shiyao."

Su Yuanke hesitated for two seconds, then followed up on Chu Ge's words, "And then?"

Chu Ge rolled his eyes and turned his gaze back to the supposedly unchanging rocky mountain outside.

"Then? You should first answer that question, and then we can talk about the 'then', right? You're trying to figure out what two plus two equals when you haven't even got one plus one straight? Ridiculous..."

Chu Ge was just venting a bit, but the frustration and tension in Su Yuanke's heart inexplicably eased a lot, even making him feel a little like laughing. Although he was far from removing his guard against Chu Ge, he suddenly felt that this guy might not be that annoying.

"I'm the ridiculous one? What a joke! I think you..."

"Wait, don't talk yet, put on your seatbelt."

Su Yuanke was about to say more when Chu Ge suddenly interrupted, making him pause slightly, "Seatbelt?"

Su Yuanke blinked, wondering if this guy was really off his rocker. Didn't this guy seek him out to ask him questions? Now that he wanted to say something, why wouldn't this guy let him talk? And asking to put on a seatbelt for no reason?

Grumbling in his heart, Su Yuanke glanced back at Chu Ge, saw his serious expression and slightly furrowed brows, ultimately stayed silent, and fastened his seatbelt as Chu Ge instructed, to watch how things would develop.

Seven or eight seconds passed, and in front of the taxi that Chu Ge and his companions were in, two beams of light were seen from afar. Although Su Yuanke could not see clearly due to the distance, he could at least tell it was a big vehicle.

Chu Ge's eyes were fixed on the front, and his expression grew more serious.

On the highway, both the taxi Chu Ge was in and the oncoming vehicle were moving at high speed. From the moment the vehicle appeared in the group's sight, within a few breaths of time, only a short distance remained between the two vehicles.

At this point, Su Yuanke had already seen the vehicle's appearance; it was a sharply lined pure black Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Under the taxi's lights, the Grand Cherokee looked like a speeding steel beast, with its huge front end giving off a fierce and cold metallic gleam. Compared to this Grand Cherokee, the Hyundai taxi they were in was like Guo Jingming beside Yao Ming.

Looking at the Grand Cherokee that was approaching, Su Yuanke glanced at Chu Ge, who had a calm and collected expression, and couldn't help but find it amusing. Could this guy have suddenly quieted down because of the Grand Cherokee opposite?

It's just passing a vehicle, is there really a need to act like facing a formidable enemy? Even he, ready to flee overnight, wasn't this panicky. What's Chu Ge fretting about? He's just... a youngster being a youngster.

As Su Yuanke was thinking this, just as the two cars were about to cross paths, the Grand Cherokee suddenly switched on its high beams. Two strong beams shot forth, instantly robbing him of his vision, causing him to instinctively lift his hand to shield his stinging eyes.

The feeling was akin to two invisible fists striking at Su Yuanke's eyes, which he prided himself on!

Not only did Su Yuanke experience this short blindness, but also the hypnotized taxi driver, whose strong optical stimulus broke his hypnotic state in an instant, causing him to suddenly regain his senses.

Before the taxi driver could figure out the situation, his body shook violently, and his head slammed into the left window of the driver's seat. With a "thud," he completely lost consciousness.

Damn!

Chu Ge cursed inwardly, crouched down, grabbed the steering wheel he had turned hard to the left, and pulled the unconscious taxi driver to the backseat.

In that moment of blinding tension, the oncoming Grand Cherokee did more than just turn on its high beams. It aggressively swerved its front end like a mad tiger, rushing towards the pitifully small Hyundai taxi.

The Grand Cherokee's maneuver was vicious and cunning, timing and angle were expertly controlled. If the Hyundai were hit, it would undoubtedly break through the mountain road's guardrail and plummet down, resulting in a fatal crash!

Fortunately, in that critical moment, Chu Ge snatched the driver's wheel, almost wanting to disassemble the wheel in his bid to swerve it completely, narrowly avoiding a collision with the Grand Cherokee.

However, now was not the time to breathe a sigh of relief, because even without a collision, the taxi's direction had completely shifted from moving straight to an angle aimed at the railing. Without intervention, it would be a matter of seconds before it fell off the cliff.

While cursing inwardly, Chu Ge's hands were busy, quickly turning the wheel in the opposite direction with all his might. But... just steering the wheel wasn't going to be enough now.

Chu Ge opened his eyes, which he had instinctively closed when the strong light flashed over, and slammed the brake pedal. Immediately, the taxi began to slide sideways at a forty-five degree angle, left front end first.

Despite Chu Ge's quick actions, the car still headed towards the road's left guardrail, approaching rapidly. Eventually, it collided, and the left front end rubbed violently against the guardrail, producing a grinding screech and a near-phantom spray of sparks in the night.

All this happened in what felt like a split second. With the sparkle of sparks, the shaking of the car, and the ear-piercing screech, Su Yuanke in the passenger seat felt the world spinning. His eyes, dazzled by the strong light earlier, were stinging intensely, tearing up uncontrollably.

Undoubtedly, if Su Yuanke hadn't fastened his seatbelt as Chu Ge had advised, he would have been hurled to some unknown spot inside the car. Yet even with the seatbelt on, his head repeatedly hit the window, humming inside his head, his stomach churning.

Su Yuanke was firmly held by the seatbelt, but for Chu Ge, who had barely seated himself in the driver's seat, maintaining balance was far more challenging than for Su Yuanke.

The taxi continued to skid forward, just a step away from crashing through the guardrail.
