Urban Soldier Young Master

Chapter 879 - 878: Everyone Has Skeletons in Their Closet

Chapter 879 - 878: Everyone Has Skeletons in Their Closet

Qin Ruoying originally intended to give Mu Lingshan a hard time, but even after speaking so bluntly, she didn't blush or seem flustered, which made her expression freeze and feel a bit annoyed.Damn! This Mu Lingshan is truly a cop, huh! Such psychological resilience!

Qin Ruoying thought angrily, staring into Mu Lingshan's eyes, "Officer Mu, are you explaining to me what materialism is?"

Mu Lingshan smiled and shook her head, "Of course not, that's just my personal opinion."

"Oh... I see." Qin Ruoying raised an eyebrow, "Then, Officer Mu, is there a ghost in your heart?"

By this time, the tension in the air was palpable, and Chu Ge really wished he wasn't here. After all, he didn't have a position to speak from and felt stuck in the middle, unable to do anything.

To everyone's surprise, Mu Lingshan nodded calmly, "Of course there is. Doesn't Miss Qin have one?"

Qin Ruoying was taken aback and asked after two seconds, "What do you mean by that, Officer Mu?"

"My meaning is simple. As long as you are human, it's impossible not to have any evil thoughts in your heart. These evil thoughts and the impulse to act on them are the ghosts. I remember there was a saying in a skit, 'Impulse is the devil,' and I think that's very accurate."

After finishing, Mu Lingshan stood up from the table without a hurry, took a napkin, and wiped the corner of her mouth, "I'm full. Thank you both Miss Qins for your hospitality. I should head to work now, so I won't disturb you further."

Qin Ruoying wanted to say something, but Qin Ruojing kicked her under the table and then stood up from her chair with a smile.

"Miss Mu, let my Chu Ge give you a ride."

Mu Lingshan was slightly stunned, "This... is too much trouble, I shouldn't impose."

"It's no trouble, Miss Mu, please don't be polite." Qin Ruojing looked at Chu Ge, "Besides, our Chu Ge doesn't have anything to do, and it's his honor to serve a beautiful lady like Miss Mu, right, darling?"

"Yes, I've just finished eating too. Miss Mu, shall we go?"

Chu Ge nodded and said, but in his heart was a wry smile—this really is a drama with three women...

Thankfully, the drama seemed to have come to an end.

Watching Chu Ge and Mu Lingshan's receding figures as the door clicked shut, Qin Ruoying stomped her foot angrily, "What the hell, she admits to having ghosts in her heart and still speaks so confidently, it infuriates me!"

Qin Ruoying turned to look at Qin Ruojing, "Sis, that policewoman's relationship with brother-in-law is clearly not simple, and she's clearly hard to deal with. I don't understand why you're not worried at all, you even let brother-in-law see her off, what were you thinking?"

Qin Ruojing smiled faintly, "If she's hard to deal with, then don't deal with her."

"Huh?" Qin Ruoying was taken aback and immediately flustered, "Sis, what are you talking about?"

"Don't worry, your sister has it under control."

Qin Ruojing laughed, patted her sister's shoulder, cleared a few dishes from the table, and walked toward the kitchen.

"Under control? What's under control? Sis, what are you planning? Tell me!"

Qin Ruoying quickly followed, but Qin Ruojing did not respond.

Chu Ge and Mu Lingshan went downstairs and finally let out a long breath. That breakfast had made him feel incredibly awkward.

Mu Lingshan hadn't said a word while going downstairs; it was only when she sat in the passenger seat of the Ferrari that she finally spoke.

"Chu Ge, I think I've finally figured out why you chose Qin Ruojing as your wife. You're quite lucky, really."

"I think so too." Chu Ge smiled and started the car, "But why do you say that?"

"It's hard to describe, it's just a very strong aura, I guess." Mu Lingshan shook her head, "Forget it, let's not talk about that. What were you up to last night anyway, can you tell me?"

"Handling some private matters, I don't want to talk about it, so don't ask."

Mu Lingshan gave Chu Ge a helpless look, "It's nothing good, right?"

Chu Ge neither confirmed nor denied, and changed the subject to Li Zheming, emphasizing this person's importance and expressing that if the police couldn't get anything out of Li Zheming, he wanted to give it a try.

Mu Lingshan got out near the Municipal Bureau, and just as Chu Ge was about to drive away, he paused.

Now that Jin Haohun, the hidden threat, had been eliminated, he didn't need to stay by Qin Ruojing's side all the time. Besides, going back to Qin Ruojing's right now would be awkward, so why not do something else?

After thinking it over for a bit, Chu Ge drove toward Tianqing Company.

He was, after all, the nominal CEO of the company and also held the position of HR manager, but since Tong Yaqi had been transferred to serve as the general manager, he had basically become a hands-off boss.

At the end of the month, he was going to Beijing with Qin Ruojing and Qin Ruoying for the wedding, and he'd need to leave a few days in advance. He figured he really should drop by Tianqing Company for a visit.

After all, He Qing had looked for him a couple of days ago. Although he hadn't gotten in touch with He Qing in the past two days, if He Qing were to call him again to ask about Tianqing Company, and he didn't know anything by then, that wouldn't be right.

Of course, on one hand, he was concerned about Tianqing Company's situation; on the other hand, it was also about checking on the people there. He remembered Qin Ruojing had specifically told him that Tong Yaqi had lost a lot of weight recently, to be honest, he was quite worried about her.

On the way, Chu Ge called Qin Ruojing to inform her. Qin Ruojing didn't say much else, and after ten minutes, the Ferrari stopped in front of Tianqing Company's building. Chu Ge walked into the building, got into the elevator, and after thinking about it, pressed the button for the floor where the HR department was located.

Were the employees in the HR department still the same people? It would be quite amusing if he, the HR manager, walked in and no one recognized him.

Chu Ge thought with some amusement. He didn't go to his separate HR manager's office but went directly to the employee's room.

As he pushed the door open, he saw the employees standing in several rows towards the back of the office, listening to a man in his thirties wearing gold-rimmed glasses and a neatly pressed suit, who seemed to be speaking. It looked like a morning meeting was underway.

The man speaking didn't look happy; he held a document in his hand, which he smacked down on a nearby desk with a loud "bang." Clearly, he was angry, and the other employees were tight-lipped, slightly lowering their heads, with their eyes fixed on their toes, each as silent as a cicada in winter.

Upon hearing the door open, the man speaking turned his head to glance at it, frowned, and coldly said, "Who are you? Don't you know to knock?"

Seems like I've come at a bad time?

But... I'm the manager of this department, after all. I was here to check on the employees' work status, why would I knock? I should be asking who you are, before you ask me.

Chu Ge found it both amusing and exasperating. Just as he was about to speak, he heard a timid voice from the front row of employees, "Manager Xu..."

Manager Xu whirled around, "Did I say you could speak?"

That timid, hesitant voice sounded again, "Manager Xu, actually..."

"Shut up!"

Manager Xu's temper was evidently getting worse. He slapped the document down on the table again and angrily reprimanded, before turning back to Chu Ge, "We are in a meeting, get out!"

Chu Ge scratched his head, "Uh... I'm..."

Manager Xu's gaze grew even colder, "I don't care who you are, get out immediately!"

Chu Ge shrugged, "Alright then, sorry to interrupt."

As he exited the office, Chu Ge stood behind the door, feeling quite helplessly amused.

Had Tong Yaqi possibly dismissed him as the HR manager while he was away for a while?

Or maybe this Manager Xu was the deputy manager of the HR department?

Moreover, did this Manager Xu have a quarrel, or why else would he be so short-tempered? Not even allowing a full sentence before directly kicking him out.

When he first left the room, Chu Ge intended to go directly to Tong Yaqi's office but stopped in his tracks after a second thought, leaning against the door to wait.

After all, he wasn't in a hurry; he was curious to find out what had riled this Manager Xu up so much first thing in the morning.

From behind the door, the sound of angry yelling became faintly audible. Though it was only fragmented phrases, Chu Ge gradually got the gist of it.

Overall, it was about the department's work efficiency issues. For instance, recruitment efforts weren't thorough enough, particularly with key high-skill positions remaining unfilled; irregularities in personnel assessments, inspection, and the personnel archive database; and during random checks on labor discipline enforcement, instances of leniency had been found, among others.

It seemed that Manager Xu's outburst wasn't unfounded; as a leader, facing such issues without getting angry would be odd.

Chu Ge waited a bit longer, about seven or eight minutes, until finally the yelling inside ceased, but still, he didn't go in directly. He planned to wait for Manager Xu to come out, partly to save Manager Xu's face.

Inside the office, amid the oppressive silence, the employee who twice spoke timidly only to be sharply rebuked by Manager Xu ventured a weak voice once more.

"Manager Xu, um, I have something I'd like to report to you."

Still angry, Manager Xu glared, "Speak!"

"Well..." This young male employee looked troubled, cautiously approaching Manager Xu, clearly wanting to speak with him privately.

"Just say it, or spit it out!"

The young male employee was well-meaning, but unfortunately, Manager Xu wasn't giving him the chance. With one furious retort, the employee was left awkwardly standing in place.

Honestly, the employee really felt hard done by; he was trying to look out for Manager Xu, yet Manager Xu kept snapping at him. Wasn't this like a dog biting the hand that feeds it?

Nowadays, it really is hard to do a good deed!

But he really was curious, after he finally managed to tell Manager Xu his unsaid piece, what kind of expression would Manager Xu have?
