Chapter 839 - 838: Chu Ge's Bargaining Chip
Chapter 839 - 838: Chu Ge's Bargaining Chip
The masked man only saw Chu Ge fall to the ground and didn't ponder why Chu Ge would fall. He only knew that with his kick, he could begin to vent his deep-seated hatred for Chu Ge."Dodge!"
The turbaned man, although not having a clear view of Chu Ge's fall, instantly realized Chu Ge's intention. Unfortunately, his warning came too late by that point.
As he shouted out the words, the masked man swung his leg round with force, similar to a soccer player making a powerful shot, kicking fiercely towards Chu Ge's head.
"Thud!"
In the next second, a muffled sound resounded through the air. The turbaned man furrowed his brow, clenched his fists tightly, and irritably said in Korean, "Damn it!"
The same scene left Mu Xiaoting stunned again. Immediately, a few traces of undeniable surprise appeared in her terrified eyes.
Just a second earlier, as the masked man's fierce kick was about to hit Chu Ge's head, Chu Ge, while rolling, suddenly raised his right hand without warning and precisely grabbed the ankle coming towards him.
Then, with a carp jump flip, Chu Ge stood up while the masked man fell to the ground, producing that heavy, air-stalling "thud" sound.
Since they had taken Mu Xiaoting hostage, he decided to take the masked man as a hostage for an exchange, which was evidently the most reasonable choice at the moment.
The reason he intentionally fell was, firstly, to create a false impression of him being in a messy state, so that the masked man, who thought he had the upper hand, would lower his guard.
Secondly, if his wounded feet landed heavily on the ground, the intense pain might also cause a momentary delay in his actions.
At this critical juncture where timing was measured in milliseconds, time was more precious than anything else; he had no leisure to consider whether his landing posture was graceful.
In fact, Chu Ge's judgment was entirely correct. As he landed with a carp flip, the intense stabbing pain made him gasp through clenched teeth, a fine layer of sweat once again forming on his forehead.
However, this was not the time to fuss over pain. Chu Ge instantly dragged the masked man off the ground and, adopting the same posture as the turbaned man, locked the man's neck with his right forearm from behind.
Seeing the masked man being captured by Chu Ge, those helmeted men rushed towards Chu Ge, their eyes behind the helmets gleaming with ferocity.
"Stand back!" This order was given by the turbaned man, spoken in Korean as before.
The turbaned man evidently held authority, as the helmeted men paused in their tracks. After a second or two, they retreated back to their original positions, though their gazes remained fiercely locked on Chu Ge like a pack of hungry wolves.
Chu Ge sneered and said in Chinese, "It seems you should be well aware of the current situation?"
The turbaned man responded casually, "Kid, you're quite something. I thought I had raised my estimation of you, but I still underestimated your cunning and strength."
This time, the turbaned man also spoke in Chinese. Although his accent was somewhat peculiar, his words were clear enough.
Chu Ge made no comment, maintaining a firm grip on the masked man and facing off against the turbaned man, who was holding Mu Xiaoting.
After a brief silence, it was the masked man, restrained by Chu Ge, who first broke the silence. Struggling, he shouted bravely but somewhat sheepishly.
"Chu Ge, you better let me go right now. Do you even know who I am? Let me tell you..."
"Shut up, I don't care who you are. Knowing just one thing is enough: right now, you're my hostage, and I hope you cooperate quietly, or else..."
When Chu Ge uttered the words "I don't want to know who you are," the masked man's gaze suddenly froze. As he was about to say something, Chu Ge suddenly tightened his grip, choking his words off midway.
Until now, Chu Ge's right forearm was simply restraining the masked man, allowing him to shout out. But once Chu Ge applied real pressure, the man couldn't utter another word.
Underneath the mask, his face quickly turned purple and red, and his exposed eyes began to roll upwards. Within seconds, there was almost only the whites of his eyes left.
Chu Ge increased the pressure with his hands, his gaze fixed on the turbaned man's face, carefully observing his reaction.
In reality, from various indications, the answer regarding the masked man's identity was already obvious.
However, even though Chu Ge had long since guessed the masked man's identity, he didn't want the man to reveal it. He aimed to conceal this fact, creating the impression among those around him that he was unaware.
Although it seems unrealistic, everyone is probably just pretending not to understand.
Chu Ge had dealt with the masked man before, and he didn't think this guy had the capability to arrange such a meticulous plan. Since coming here, the biggest trouble in his eyes was this man with the headscarf. He suspected that all of this was orchestrated by the headscarf man.
After a few seconds, Chu Ge felt even more tense. Even though he was about to strangle the masked man to death, the headscarf man merely frowned at the beginning and then quickly returned to his calm demeanor.
It was as if he didn't care about the masked man's life at all, not even bothering to use the same method to trouble Mu Xiaoting.
"I think you could loosen your hold on him a bit. If he dies, it won't benefit you at all. After all, he is your only leverage right now, isn't he?"
"I admit, you're right." Chu Ge chuckled and eased the pressure from his right forearm on Li Zheming's neck.
Li Zheming coughed violently a few times, gasping for air. However, just as he took a couple of breaths, Chu Ge suddenly, without warning, pulled him back a step.
As Chu Ge stepped back, a dagger with a cold gleam flashed through the air like a shooting star, narrowly skimming the mask on the masked man's face, and flew into the distance. A few seconds later, the sound of the dagger hitting the ground resonated in the air with a "clang".
Only then did the masked man realize what had happened, screaming, "Are you crazy? You nearly killed me!"
When the man with the helmet made eye contact with him, his face, hidden under the helmet, turned extremely awkward. He had intended to help the masked man while Chu Ge was not paying attention, but didn't expect that the thrown dagger almost took the masked man's life.
Chu Ge still fixed his gaze on the headscarf man, "If you allow your men to make these little moves again, I won't hesitate to use this guy as a shield. Of course, like you just said, he is my leverage, and I won't let him die easily."
The headscarf man nodded, looking at Chu Ge with even more seriousness.
To be fair, he thought the earlier throw was brilliant – a silent surprise attack, perfectly timed and angled. At that moment, Chu Ge's attention should have been focused on him and the masked man.
Yet…Chu Ge had dodged the throw without even glancing that way?
Such keen instincts deserve the label "fearsome"!
After a slight pause, the headscarf man spoke, "I understand your point, you want to use him to exchange for that woman."
Chu Ge was about to say something when the headscarf man continued, "Before we talk about this, I'd like to ask you, even if I give you the woman, do you truly think, under the current circumstances, you have the ability to leave with her unharmed?"
Chu Ge replied blandly, "That's none of your concern. Just proceed with the exchange."
"Mr. Chu, honestly, I admire your courage, wit, your keen observation and your strong patience. Although I haven't officially fought with you, I have no doubt you are a martial artist. If it wasn't for some unpleasant events earlier, I believe I would have been very willing to make you one of us or to befriend you."
Hearing the headscarf man suddenly say this, Chu Ge couldn't help frowning secretly, it seems… using the masked man to exchange for Mu Xiaoting won't be that easy…
"Perhaps I should thank you for your praise, but I think it's meaningless for you to say these things to me now. We are on opposing sides. Right now, you all can't wait to kill me, can you?"
"Hahaha… Mr. Chu, there is an old saying in Hua Country, 'There are no eternal friends and no eternal…'"
Before the headscarf man could finish, Chu Ge coldly interrupted him, "I'll remind you once again, I don't want to chat with you. I want that woman in your hands."
"Mr. Chu, why can't we solve this problem through a peaceful dialogue?"
"Dialogue? Peace?" Chu Ge laughed out loudly, then suddenly said coldly, "If I didn't have this guy as leverage right now, would you even mention those words to me? Don't you find it hilarious?"
As he spoke, Chu Ge dragged the masked man to the edge of the dam, suddenly gripping his neck, and swung him over the rushing river below.
The masked man's pupils shrank. He wanted to scream but couldn't make a sound. His limbs struggled wildly for a moment and then stopped.
His struggle was due to Chu Ge gripping his neck and his instinctive fear of the river below him. His lack of struggle was for the same reason.
If his movements were too large, causing Chu Ge to loosen his grip, he would plummet into the river below, which would almost certainly spell his doom.
Chu Ge held the masked man by the neck, coldly staring at the headscarf man, "Release her!"
