Chapter 67 A Narrow Escape and Unexpected Clues

Chapter 67 A Narrow Escape and Unexpected Clues

Within the runic array, the colossal beast, brimming with its restored power, charged towards the group. Its dark purple light nearly blinded them entirely; with each approach, it felt as if a mountain was pressing down, making it hard to breathe. The surrounding runes flickered more wildly, as if cheering on the impending bloody battle. The air within the array seemed to solidify, cold and heavy, filled with a deathly stillness that instilled despair.

Huanmo stared at the menacing beast, veins bulging on his forehead, his heart filled with regret and anxiety. He blamed himself for being trapped in the jade box's light, unable to fight alongside everyone at this crucial moment, forced to watch helplessly as danger drew ever closer. "I can't let everyone be trapped because of me! I must find a way to break free!" he roared inwardly, struggling once more with all his might. The jade box's light flickered erratically, as if it too was wrestling with him, and for a moment, he couldn't break free.

The woman in black gritted her teeth, her feet firmly planted on the ground, her hands gripping her black longsword tightly. Although her hands trembled slightly from the force, her eyes still shone with determination. "Even if it costs me my life, I won't let it succeed so easily!" she vowed silently, her gaze fixed on the beast's previously discovered weaknesses, preparing to deliver a fatal blow when it got close, even if that blow might be her last stand.

The man in white wore a grave expression, his fingers turning white as he frantically played the jade flute, anxiously searching for a solution. "That strange energy that allowed the giant beast to recover instantly must be the work of this runic array. If we can find a way to sever its connection with the beast, perhaps there's still a glimmer of hope." His gaze swept back and forth between the giant beast and the surrounding runes, not missing a single possible clue.

The man in the green robe endured the excruciating pain from his shoulder wound, leaning on Qingwan as they prepared to fight again. Seeing everyone struggling so much, Qingwan's eyes reddened, but she still tried to calm herself, gathering her remaining spiritual energy and channeling it to the man in the green robe, murmuring, "You must hold on, we'll get through this together."

Wanru, clutching the white tiger, hid a little further away, her body trembling, tears streaming down her face. She was terrified of losing her companions with whom she had come this far, and felt helpless in the face of this seemingly insurmountable situation. "Are we really going to stop here? No, there must be a way, everyone is still fighting desperately!" she sobbed, trying to calm herself, her eyes frantically searching her surroundings, hoping to find some turning point.

Just as the colossal beast was about to pounce on the group, suddenly, the runic light that had been continuously supplying energy to the beast became slightly disordered. In an inconspicuous corner of the rune array, several runes began to flash at an extremely rapid frequency, and then started to burst forth with beams of golden light. These beams shot towards the beast like sharp swords, striking it and causing the beast to abruptly stop moving, letting out a painful roar.

Everyone was stunned by this sudden turn of events, but then a spark of hope ignited in their eyes.

"What's going on? Could there be some other power within this rune array helping us?" the woman in black robes exclaimed in surprise.

A thoughtful look flashed in the white-clad man's eyes. He quickly said, "Let's not worry about that for now. While it's being held back, let's quickly attack its weakness!"

Having said that, the crowd surged forward, seizing this rare opportunity to launch a fierce attack on the giant beast's weaknesses. Each thrust of the black-robed woman's longsword brought forth a trail of dark purple light, indicating that the giant beast's spiritual power was being continuously weakened; the white-robed man's jade flute sound waves also became more rapid and powerful, as if transforming into invisible blades that were cutting through the giant beast's defenses; the green-robed man, enduring his injuries, coordinated perfectly with Qingwan, and their attacks became increasingly fierce.

Huanmo was overjoyed to see this turning point appear, and he struggled even more frantically. Finally, with his unremitting efforts, the light of the jade box loosened a little, and he felt that he was getting closer and closer to being able to participate in the battle.

With everyone working together, the giant beast sustained more and more wounds, and its dark purple light dimmed considerably. It struggled and roared incessantly, but it no longer possessed its former invincible majesty.

However, just when everyone thought victory was in sight, the golden light suddenly stopped shooting out, and the rune array returned to its previous eerie calm, as if everything that had just happened was merely a brief interlude. Taking advantage of this gap, the giant beast once again gathered its power, abruptly throwing everyone aside and taking a few steps back. Its pair of ghostly, fiery eyes glared fiercely at the group, as if brewing an even more ferocious counterattack.

The hope that had just been ignited was extinguished again, and exhaustion and despair surged back into their hearts.

"Why is it like this again? I finally saw a glimmer of hope..." Wanru cried out in despair.

Huanmo finally broke free from most of the constraints of the jade box's light. He rushed forward, shielding Wanru and the white tiger behind him, his eyes warily fixed on the giant beast, while his mind raced, searching for a solution. "There must be something about this rune array that we haven't figured out yet. That golden light couldn't have appeared out of nowhere; it must be related to some mechanism or secret within this array."

Just as everyone was at a stalemate, the white tiger suddenly struggled to its feet from Wanru's arms. Its blue eyes were fixed on a spot in the rune array, and it let out a low growl. Following its gaze, everyone saw a stone slab covered with ancient runes. It had been overlooked by everyone before, but now it was emitting a faint golden light, somewhat similar to the golden light they had seen before.

"Could the key be there?" Huanmo murmured to himself, a surge of urge to investigate welling up within him.

But the behemoth clearly wouldn't give them that chance. It attacked again, charging towards the group. Helpless, they could only dodge while struggling to make their way towards the stone slab. Every step was extremely difficult, and life and death hung in the balance.
