Chapter 438 Azure Moon
Hearing Xiao Siyue's words, the Fourth Princess became truly anxious.
"Xiao Siyue, today is a banquet hosted by the Second Princess. Are you determined to ruin it?"
Xiao Siyue found it quite amusing. After all, she was trying to sabotage things: "What are you saying, Fourth Princess? Can't you see who sabotaged things? How come someone is trying to harm me now, and I can't even investigate? Or does Fourth Princess know who it is and want to protect them?"
"What...what are you saying? How would I know who it is? I just didn't want my second sister's hard work in organizing this banquet to be ruined, nor did I want to spoil the mood for all the young ladies." The fourth princess was a little guilty.
"What did the Second Princess say? Does she want me to suffer this injustice for nothing?"
"Princess Zhaoning, rest assured, I will investigate thoroughly." What could the Second Princess do? If she let it go so easily, what would others think? Who would say she had a guilty conscience?
"That's good." Xiao Siyue was satisfied. She would not let this matter go easily. Even if she couldn't deal with the Fourth Princess, she would make sure that everyone knew what the Fourth Princess had done.
Xiao Siyue looked at the man: "I'm asking you, do you remember who gave you the money?"
The man was already terrified, all because of his sigh.
"She was wearing a pink ruqun (a type of traditional Chinese dress), not very tall, and wearing a veil, so I couldn't see what her face looked like." The man recalled carefully that he had happily accepted the money when someone gave him to him, and had never thought of anything else.
These were not enough for her to find someone.
"What are her distinguishing features?"
The man thought carefully for a moment and said, "I remember now. She has a mole at the corner of her eye, right there, very noticeable. And she's wearing a butterfly hairpin in her hair." The man pointed to the corner of his left eye.
After listening to the man's words, Xiao Siyue looked at everyone present, her gaze settling on a maid behind the Fourth Princess.
Xiao Siyue walked forward and pointed to the maid behind her.
"Fourth Princess, you seem to be a perfect fit for the role of maid."
Everyone looked over and saw that the maid indeed had a very obvious mole at the corner of her eye. Although her clothes were different, she was still wearing a butterfly hairpin in her hair.
The Fourth Princess suddenly looked at Xiao Siyue: "What nonsense are you talking about? How could she possibly be my maid?"
"Oh? Then let him identify it."
Xiao Siyue instructed Shi Qing to pull the maidservant in front of the man.
"Take a look, is that her?"
"It's not me, Princess, it's not me! She's mistaken me for someone else!" The maid, being dragged by Shi Qing, trembled like a leaf as she pleaded for help from the Fourth Princess.
"It's her! I remember her voice, and she has a mole near her eye," the man exclaimed loudly upon hearing the maid's voice.
"Does the Fourth Princess have anything else to say?"
The fourth princess angrily kicked the man: "Why are you making baseless accusations? You good-for-nothing fool!"
"Is the Fourth Princess getting angry out of embarrassment?" Xiao Siyue said with a mocking laugh.
"Xiao Siyue, shut up." The Fourth Princess glared angrily at Xiao Siyue, whose smile made her feel extremely embarrassed.
"Hmph! Fourth Princess, shouldn't you give me a reasonable explanation? Why would your maid deliberately hire someone to murder me?" Xiao Siyue questioned angrily.
The fourth princess glanced at her disdainfully and sneered, "Who do you think you are? How dare you come and question this princess?"
After saying that, the Fourth Princess looked at Xiao Siyue with a gaze full of malice and hatred, as if her eyes were filled with deadly poison.
However, Xiao Siyue was not intimidated by the other party's imposing manner. She straightened her back and replied neither humbly nor arrogantly, "Admittedly, I am not as noble as you, Fourth Princess. But I am still a princess personally appointed by His Majesty, and the legitimate daughter of a Marquis's family. Now that I have suffered this calamity and almost lost my life, shouldn't I demand an explanation?"
“If the Fourth Princess thinks that my name, as the daughter of a subject, can be trampled on at will, then I have no choice but to ask my father to submit a memorial to His Majesty and seek his advice.” After saying this, Xiao Siyue squinted at the Fourth Princess.
"Are you threatening me?" The Fourth Princess glared fiercely at Xiao Siyue.
"No, I just want justice. If I hadn't escaped this calamity by chance, I think the Fourth Princess knows what my fate would have been." Having tested her reputation in front of everyone, she figured her only option was death, after all, this was ancient times.
"Heh." The Fourth Princess sneered, but she didn't dare to actually let Xiao Siyue's father submit a memorial to Emperor Zhou.
The Fourth Princess looked at Xiao Siyue, then turned to her maid and said, "Biyue, is this person talking about you? How dare you do such a vicious thing behind your master's back? Do you know your crime?"
Biyue was startled; the princess was trying to take the blame herself.
She looked at the princess and saw the coldness in her eyes, knowing that she had guessed correctly, and felt a deep sorrow in her heart.
"This servant knows her crime; it was this servant who did it."
The Fourth Princess finally breathed a sigh of relief: "How dare you frame Princess Zhaoning! Stay here and be beaten to death with sticks."
Biyue collapsed to the ground, tears streaming from her eyes.
Xiao Siyue sneered, knowing that the Fourth Princess wanted Biyue to take the blame, but letting her off so easily would be too lenient.
"Biyue, is it? I don't remember us having any enmity, and I don't know you. Why are you trying to harm me?"
Biyue glanced at Xiao Siyue. She didn't want to either, but she couldn't disobey the princess.
"Because you bullied the princess in the pavilion, I couldn't stand it and that's why I thought of teaching you a lesson."
"Haha, Biyue, do you think your reason is convincing? To be honest, otherwise I wouldn't recommend handing you over to the Jingzhao Prefecture so they can investigate you thoroughly."
Upon hearing Biyue's words, the Fourth Princess cursed her inwardly as an idiot for not being able to come up with a better excuse.
"Biyue, why did you harm Princess Zhaoning? Don't make baseless accusations against me. I need you to avenge me." The Fourth Princess looked at Biyue with eyes full of threat.
"I...I'm telling the truth." Biyue didn't know what to say. This was the first time she had met Princess Zhaoning. What grudge could she possibly have against her?
"Fourth Princess, I think we should hand the person over to the Jingzhao Prefecture. I'm sure they'll be able to interrogate him there," Gu Xinglan chimed in.
"No." The fourth princess said reflexively, but when she realized what she had said, she noticed that everyone was looking at her strangely and knew that she had just said the wrong thing.
"What I mean is that it's just a small matter, we can handle it ourselves, there's no need to trouble the Jingzhao Prefecture."
"A trivial matter? Forgive my bluntness, Fourth Princess, but this is no trivial matter at all." Ye Mufan sneered.
"You..." The Fourth Princess looked at the two people standing with Xiao Siyue, feeling resentful in her heart. These two were always going against her.
