Chapter 466 Discovery
Chapter 466 Discovery
Xiang Yuntian and Zhao Fei were close friends. He stepped forward and said with a wry smile, "How could we catch anyone? We didn't catch anyone, and we even lost Liu Fu's life. But then again, Liu Fu did so many bad things, he deserved to die."
Bai Mengfei followed slowly, remaining silent the entire way.
Zhao Fei looked at his injured leg and said with a worried expression, "There are still some things at the bureau that need me to go back and deal with, but I'm injured like this and can't move at all. It's really giving me a headache."
Hearing Zhao Fei's words, Bai Mengfei quickly said, "Don't worry, don't think so much. With Xiang Yuntian and me keeping an eye on things at the police station, there definitely won't be any problems, so don't worry."
Hearing Bai Mengfei's words, Zhao Fei felt much more at ease and nodded secretly. Then, he raised his head and looked at Xiang Yuntian with a hint of expectation in his eyes, hoping that Xiang Yuntian could also reassure him.
Xiang Yuntian immediately understood the meaning in Zhao Fei's eyes, nodded secretly, smiled slightly, and said, "Captain Zhao, don't worry, I will definitely take good care of things at the bureau for you, and I will never let you down."
Zhao Fei finally breathed a sigh of relief.
After visiting Zhao Fei, the two returned to the police station. They had originally planned to continue investigating the previous case, but upon arriving at the station, an officer approached them and asked, "Captain Zhao said he has a particularly important case to report to you, is that true?"
Bai Mengfei nodded slightly, but couldn't help feeling a little suspicious as she looked at the police officer, wondering what important matter he had to discuss.
The police officer took out a report and said, "This is what happened at the old house of Lian Zheng, the richest man in the city."
"What's wrong with this old house? Is it for sale?" Xiang Yuntian joked, trying to find humor in the situation.
The officer, however, said with a serious expression, "No. We received a report yesterday that two dogs had been loitering near the old house and barking incessantly outside the door. When our police arrived at the scene, we found two bodies. This case is a bit strange."
"How is it strange?" Xiang Yuntian asked as he showed the documents to Bai Mengfei.
The officer explained, "What's strange is why it had to be two dogs? It's really puzzling."
“If a dog is barking, then it’s very likely that the time the dog was barking was when the murderer committed the crime.” Bai Mengfei said, taking the report and examining it carefully. “The residents heard the dog barking at 8:25 p.m. the night before last. If the autopsy results show that the time of death of the deceased matches this, then it means that my deduction is correct.”
Xiang Yuntian nodded repeatedly after hearing Bai Mengfei's words, agreeing with her point of view.
The two quickly went to the morgue to examine the bodies. The examination revealed that the cause of death for both the man and woman matched the time the resident reported hearing the dog barking.
In other words, the two dogs may have witnessed the murderer committing the crime.
Bai Mengfei fell into deep thought. Seeing this, Xiang Yuntian asked, "What are you thinking about? You seem so engrossed."
"We have now confirmed that the time of the deceased's death coincides perfectly with the time the dog was barking."
"and then?"
"Finding those two dogs is extremely important!" Bai Mengfei said firmly. "What we need to do now is find them as soon as possible."
Xiang Yuntian chuckled and asked, "What do you need them for? Do you expect them to draw a portrait of the murderer for us?"
“No!” Bai Mengfei gently shook her head. “They can’t talk, so how could they help the police describe the murderer’s appearance? But their sense of smell is very keen, so they might be able to help us find the murderer. As long as we let them smell the body, they should be able to react.”
Xiang Yuntian put his hands in his pockets, thought seriously for a while, then shook his head and objected: "I don't think it's appropriate to do this."
"What's wrong?" Bai Mengfei asked, puzzled.
Xiang Yuntian explained, "Think about it, they're just ordinary mongrel dogs, not professionally trained police dogs. If they mistake someone for someone else, that would be a huge problem."
Bai Mengfei felt that Xiang Yuntian's words made sense, and she secretly weighed the consequences in her mind.
After some consideration, Bai Mengfei said, "But we don't have any better options right now. So we have to try it no matter what."
Seeing Bai Mengfei's resolute attitude, Xiang Yuntian sighed helplessly and said, "Alright, the same as before, I'll go with you."
"Okay!" Bai Mengfei readily agreed.
The two then left the police station together and went to Lien Cheng's old house.
The Lian family's old house is located in a quiet village.
Upon arriving at the old house, the first thing the two did was put on gloves. They needed to prepare in advance to avoid leaving their fingerprints or other traces, as they were going to carefully examine the scene.
The two of them placed their hands on the door and gently pushed it. With a creak, the ancient door slowly opened.
Before even stepping inside, just seeing the scale of the old house, Xiang Yuntian remarked, "It seems that Lian Zheng's family was indeed very well-off in the past."
"Don't think about it too much," Bai Mengfei said.
After entering the old house, Xiang Yuntian couldn't help but ask, "What do you think those two people were doing here? If it weren't for this incident, this house would probably have been abandoned long ago, right?"
Bai Mengfei gently shook her head, indicating that she didn't know and didn't want to guess.
After pondering for a moment, Xiang Yuntian took out an ultraviolet pen and a flashlight, and carefully inspected the area from the outer courtyard to the inner hall.
Bai Mengfei didn't do so many complicated tasks; she simply looked down at the ground.
This time, she didn't need tools like UV markers or aluminum powder to see the bloodstains on the ground. Perhaps because of the light rain that had fallen earlier, the chalk marks had been washed away, leaving only a layer of white impurities.
She calmly walked over, squatted down, and examined it carefully.
Seeing that she seemed to have discovered something, Xiang Yuntian walked over and asked, "Did you find something?"
Bai Mengfei glanced around discreetly, then said, "The deceased must have been murdered here. But this is a courtyard; why would they have been killed here?"
Xiang Yuntian immediately recalled the results of the previous autopsy.
Thinking of this, he couldn't help but say, "Both of them were stabbed to death by sharp weapons, and apart from the wounds left by the weapons, there were no other marks on their bodies."
