Chapter 367: Superpower Speculation
Chapter 367: Superpower Speculation
After watching the others fight, Lin Xinghai began to contemplate a problem with his own Superpower.
Unlike the others’ flashy abilities, his Speed Superpower had practically only two options: activate and deactivate.
To use a rough analogy: if his normal speed was walking, then activating his Superpower was like unlocking his body and learning how to run.
Of course, after activating the Superpower, he could control his speed, but that was a matter of controlling his body, not the Superpower itself.
It was like how one could choose to run faster or slower.
Thus, there was very little room to manipulate his Speed Superpower, though it wasn’t nonexistent.
Previously, whenever he used his Speed Superpower, it would directly draw 10% of his body’s Energy and infuse it throughout his limbs, completing the activation.
After activation, his Speed would be boosted by 300% for the next five minutes.
This was perfectly justifiable for a sustained battle, but if a fight ended in just a few dozen seconds like the last one, using the Superpower under those circumstances was a huge waste.
Of course, this wasn’t a recent discovery for Lin Xinghai. He had already considered this problem back in Guanghan City while instructing Liu Miaomiao and Wang Yao on how to use their Superpowers in combat.
Since then, he had made several attempts to draw as little Energy as possible when activating his Superpower, hoping to control its duration.
After a period of practice, his control over his Superpower had improved, but he could still only manage a rough level of control.
Now, he could control the Energy draw for activation, reducing the standard 10% to somewhere between 5% and 7%.
Previously, Lin Xinghai might not have considered this a major issue. After all, he had the system; as long as he spent Blood Qi Power, he could replenish his Energy Value.
But after seeing Little Fatty wield his Superpower today with the ease of moving his own limbs, he became quite dissatisfied with his own, roughly-controlled ability.
He wanted to achieve perfect improvement, leaving no flaws behind. That was why his brow was so tightly furrowed.
Of course, he had his own theories about why he couldn’t control his Superpower better. The most likely reason was a problem with the Superpower itself.
Although his Speed Superpower had become absurdly powerful after three awakenings, and its percentage-based boost would only grow more terrifying as his Physique improved...
...none of this could hide a fundamental truth: his Speed Superpower was, in the end, just a Basic Superpower.
And according to his understanding, this type of enhancement-based Basic Superpower generally couldn’t be precisely controlled.
Take Roger’s Giant Strength Superpower, for example. Its enhancement effect was extremely brief, lasting only three seconds.
In that situation, there was no point in considering how to shorten the duration; any shorter and it would be useless in a fight.
If the problem truly lay with the Superpower itself, then there wasn’t much Lin Xinghai could do.
If he wanted to achieve perfect control over his Superpower now, he could think of two possible methods.
First, he could break through to the Blood Qi Realm. As his Perception Power increased, so too would his control over his Superpower.
Second, he could hope that after a fourth awakening, his Superpower would become as precisely controllable as a Rare Superpower.
Of course, neither of these methods could solve his immediate problem. Right now, the most effective approach was likely to simply use his Superpower more often to improve his proficiency.
Mulling this over, he led the team through the alley and onto another street.
Gazing at the horde of zombies in the distance, Lin Xinghai spoke up. "Everyone performed well in that last fight, but the problem is that this style of combat consumes too much Energy."
"You might be able to handle eight or ten more fights like that, but it’s impossible to fight our way to the city center relying on this method. So, for the upcoming battles, I want everyone to refrain from using their Superpowers. And I won’t be using my Firearms either."
"Huh? No Superpowers? Then how are we supposed to fight?" Little Fatty immediately grew anxious. Without his Superpower, his combat effectiveness would be at 30% of its usual level, at best.
"Is there a problem? Your Genetic Optimization Level is at 99%. You really need your Superpower to fight a few Ordinary Zombies?" Lin Xinghai said flatly, glancing at him.
"Er..." Little Fatty thought for a moment. He couldn’t really argue with that. "Forget about me, then. But Jin Tong and Liu Miaomiao... can they really handle so many Intermediate Zombies without their Superpowers? And what about the High Level Zombies? They won’t be easy to deal with, either!"
"I’ll be fine," Liu Miaomiao said at once.
"Me too," Jin Tong added quickly.
Although they both said they were fine with it, Lin Xinghai wasn’t the type to ignore valid concerns.
After a moment of thought, he said, "Alright, how about this: in principle, we won’t use our Superpowers. But if you run into trouble, use them when you have to. Our main goal is just to lower our Superpower consumption."
No one had any objections, so the matter was settled.
"Um, I have one more question. Without my Superpower, this Fine Steel Shield is too heavy. It’s not great for attacking!" As Little Fatty spoke, his eyes drifted to the long spear on Lin Xinghai’s back.
"Don’t even think about my weapon. If I give it to you, what am I supposed to use?" Lin Xinghai retorted irritably.
He then pointed to a wrecked vehicle nearby. "Just rip something off of that to use as a weapon. Tear off the driveshaft or something; it’ll work perfectly as an iron club."
"Oh, right!" Little Fatty’s eyes lit up.
He borrowed the long blade from Jin Tong and started hacking away with a series of loud CLANGS. Even though Little Fatty was a Physique Type, his Power was still over 80. In just a few strikes, he had torn apart the wrecked pickup truck.
He quickly pulled out a driveshaft from within, about 1.5 meters long and 5 centimeters wide.
The thing was forged from high-quality steel, making it a perfectly suitable weapon. Little Fatty gave it a couple of swings and felt it was just right. At the very least, he’d have no problem smashing an Ordinary Zombie’s head in with a single blow.
Now he had a weapon. However, the racket Little Fatty made while violently dismantling the truck was not insignificant; it had already attracted a nearby group of zombies.
Lin Xinghai glanced over and said, "Thirty-one zombies. Not too many, not too few. Just enough for us to get some practice in."
As he spoke, he drew the long spear from his back and, holding it ready, took the lead.
The other three hurried to follow. At Lin Xinghai’s signal, they quickly fell into a somewhat unorthodox attack formation.
