Chapter 2124 What a huge pie!
Chapter 2124 What a huge pie!
Chunni was stunned by Mr. Mo's words; she had never imagined such a possibility.
The Liu family had lived in Rongzhou for generations. Although they were considered wealthy, they were always just local gentry. Apart from the eunuch who died young, no one of them had ever been able to enter the circles of the capital.
"I can lead the Liu family to the capital and into the imperial court."
Mr. Mo's voice remained gentle, yet carried an undeniable power: "So that you and the Liu family can stand under the emperor's feet, enjoying the world's splendor alongside royalty, no longer relying solely on a cold, hard token to eke out a living in Rongzhou."
Chunni's heart raced instantly. Such temptation was simply irresistible to her, who was desperate and filled with resentment at the time.
She looked into the man's eyes and seemed to see the future prosperity of the Liu family reflected in them.
“As long as you do as I say,” the man continued, “I will guarantee the Liu family wealth and prosperity, and a worry-free life.”
"Why are you helping me?" Chunni suppressed her excitement and tried to remain calm.
"It's just a matter of mutual benefit." The man chuckled. "What I need you to do is not difficult for you or the Liu family."
Yan Ruyu's voice interrupted Chunni's recollection: "What does Mr. Mo look like? Besides the black cloak and mask, what else did you see?"
Chunni snapped out of her daze, shook her head, and said with a hint of confusion in her eyes, "I don't know."
She thought about it carefully, but still couldn't figure it out: "He always wore a mask, and he never took off the hood of his cloak, so I couldn't see his face at all. His voice was disguised, so I couldn't tell his age or his original tone."
Huo Changhe stepped forward, staring sharply at her: "He won't even show his face, and what he says is utterly vague. You actually believe him?"
Chunni nodded without hesitation, her tone very firm: "I believe you."
She paused, as if explaining, or perhaps trying to convince herself: "Mr. Mo has a kind of magic. When he speaks, people can't help but believe him. Every word he says seems to come true, making it irresistible."
She still remembers that when they first met, Mr. Mo just stood there without making any extra movements, but he made her feel incredibly at ease, as if as long as she followed him, all the problems of the Liu family could be solved.
“I saw him a second time, half a month later,” Chunni continued. “He asked me to meet him in a dilapidated temple outside the city. He gave me a blueprint and asked me to modify the horse farm according to the blueprint and train a specific breed of military horses.”
“He also taught me how to consolidate the clan’s power and how to sideline Liu Balang.” Chunni’s voice lowered. “He said that to accomplish great things, one must first grasp power firmly and not allow any obstacles.”
Yan Ruyu raised an eyebrow: "And the third time? What did he make you do then?"
“The third time was more than a year ago.” Chunni’s eyes darkened. “He told me that he wanted me to build a small island and raise a divine beast on it.” She glanced at Yan Ruyu. “As you probably know, it’s the one from Dragon Roar Island.”
"Didn't Mr. Mo tell you what he was going to do with the divine beast?" Huo Changhe pressed, his tone carrying a hint of scrutiny.
Chunni shook her head again: "He didn't say." There was a hint of confusion in her voice. "He just taught me how to do it. I only know that I need to find one thing. As for the rest, Wu Ping'an, whom he sent, gave me instructions."
Yan Ruyu looked into Chunni's eyes, trying to find a trace of a lie, but Chunni's eyes showed nothing unusual except confusion and resentment.
"You think Mr. Mo is genuinely helping you?" Yan Ruyu's voice came, tinged with sarcasm. "He allowed you to privately raise military horses, but what he coveted was probably not wealth and glory, but rather the overthrow of the court. You and the Liu family are nothing more than pawns on his chessboard."
Chunni's face turned pale, her lips moved as if she wanted to say something, but she couldn't utter a word.
Actually, she had her doubts, but the future Mr. Mo described was too tempting, making her unwilling to delve into those doubts.
"What kind of person is Wu Ping'an?" Huo Changhe asked.
Chunni thought for a moment: "He was an old man, over sixty years old, with a white face and no beard."
Yan Ruyu and Huo Changhe exchanged a glance, both seeing the doubt in each other's eyes.
Chunni is wrong.
It seems that Wu Ping'an did not show his true face when he met Chunni.
Unable to get any information out of her immediately, Yan Ruyu ordered her guards to take Chunni to the Su residence.
She and Huo Changhe strolled slowly here, observing the horses.
“This place is indeed quite nice.” Huo Changhe’s voice broke the silence. His gaze was drawn to a horse not far away, and he quickened his pace unconsciously.
It was a pure white horse, without a single blemish, grazing on the grass with its head down. It had a long neck and strong limbs, and even just standing there casually, it exuded a sense of divine majesty.
Huo Changhe walked to the horse, but did not reach out rashly. He simply circled the horse twice, his gaze sweeping from the horse's head to its tail, his eyes revealing undisguised affection.
"A fine horse," he murmured in admiration, then raised his hand and gently placed his palm on the horse's neck, stroking its smooth mane.
The horse didn't seem afraid of strangers; it just raised its head, snorted, and then continued to graze.
"These are all top-quality military horses." Huo Changhe's fingertips gently traced the horse's mane, his tone full of affection. "Look at their skeletons, their muscles, they're the kind of horses that can race across the battlefield. When we bring them back to the Northwest, I'll definitely take good care of them and make sure they can all be put to good use."
Yan Ruyu stood to the side, looking at the white horse and then at Huo Changhe's focused expression, a faint smile playing on her lips.
She pondered for a moment, then said, "Your Highness is absolutely right; these horses are indeed of exceptional quality."
She paused, her gaze sweeping across the entire horse farm: "Although there are places in the Northwest where horses can be raised, in my opinion, it would be better to keep them here."
Huo Changhe paused in stroking the horse, then turned to look at her: "Oh? What makes you say that?"
“Firstly, we don’t need to move the place.” Yan Ruyu walked slowly to another chestnut horse and gently touched the reins with her fingertips. “Leaving so many military horses in place saves a lot of trouble.”
She looked up into the distance: "Secondly, Rongzhou has unique advantages. It has rivers, abundant water resources, and ready-made horse farms, making it more suitable for raising horses than the Gobi Desert in the northwest."
Huo Changhe followed her gaze and nodded thoughtfully.
Yan Ruyu continued, "More importantly, the situation in the Northwest is still unclear."
Her tone turned serious, tinged with caution: "The forces beyond the Great Wall are stirring, and the various factions within the court are deeply entrenched. No one can predict what changes might occur next."
It's best not to put all your eggs in one basket. Leaving some of the warhorses here provides an extra layer of protection.
Huo Changhe remained silent for a moment, carefully considering her words, and a look of agreement gradually appeared in his eyes: "You're right. Dispersing them is indeed more prudent, but—"
He changed the subject: "Should we send someone to manage it?"
Upon hearing this, Yan Ruyu smiled knowingly, her eyes crinkling: "I was just about to recommend two people to you."
"Oh? Who is it?" Huo Changhe became interested and took half a step forward, waiting for her answer.
